BILLY BOYS’ WORKSHOP

HOW TO MAKE A RABBIT HUTCH. This week, again by special request, I am giving instructions for making a simple rabbit hutch. The little house and the run are made with two boxes joined together, side by side, as shown in the diagrams.. The box for the sleeping compartment should measure at least fifteen inches long, twelve inches wide, and nine inches deep. The one for the run should be the, same width and depth, but three to. six inches longer. Suitable wooden boxes can usually be obtained from a grocer’s shop for a few pence. Remove one of the sides from each box, and in one end of the smaller one cut the opening. A, to the sizes given. Also remove- both ends of the longer box; with the exception of the two Strips, 8,8, which are one and a half to two inches wide. Place the two boxes side by side, as shown in diagram C, and fix them together- with four screws. x Now nail two strips of on' and a half inch by halfihch woOd along the bottom of the boxes, as at D,D; and two more strips, about ten inches long, on top, as shown in the first diagram. Make the door of the sleeping compartment from, three pieces of wood joined together with two cross battens, E,E, which must be placed on the inside. The door should fit nicely between the two side pieces; to one of which a turributton is screwed, while hinges are screwed to the other side. Bore three large holes in the door, and three in the end of the sleeping compartment, for ventilation. The door for the run, which is placed

at the end, as shown in. diagram F, can be made in the safne way as tlie other door, except that if will require no ventilation holes. To complete the' little hutch, fix a piece of wire netting over the front of the run, attaching it with small wire staples. Paint the outside of the hutch, and to keep the roof Weatherproof nail on a piece ’of roofing felt of sufficient length arid width to overlap about two inches at front, sides and back. The Hut Carpenter.
