OAKURA FAREWELL

MRS. HARRIS’ DEPARTURE. A farewell was tendered' Mrs. C. J. Harris, former president ’of the Oakura Women’s Division, by members on Wednesday afternoon. The supper room was decorated with streamers of the division’s colours, and the afternoon tea tables were decorated with the colours, and chrysanthemums. Mrs. Beale, the new ■ president, - welcomed Mrs. Harris and the visitors, and Nola Brown presented Mrs. Harris with a bouquet. • The programme was contributed to by Mrs. Harris and Miss Maisie Rusling (songs), Miss Lucy Knight (elocution), and . Miss Nora Staveley (Highland dancing). Several competitions were held, the winners being: Drawing cat blindfolded, Mrs. Harris; advertisements, Mrs. Hughes; memory test, Mrs. Harris, who gave back the prize, which was won by Mrs. Wilkinson. During afternoon tea Mrs. Beale called on Mrs. McGregor, Koru, an original member of the branch, to' bid farewell to Mrs. Harris. Mrs. McGregor, . expressed regret "at Mrs. Harris’ departure from the district, and presented her with a seagrass chair, and Master Lewis Harris with a small token. Mrs. Harris replied. Mrs. McPhillips, president of the New Plymouth •. branch, Mrs. Andrews, of the Okato branch, and Mrs. Hughes, of the Kaitake Women’s Institute, also spoke. Among those present were Mrs. C. J. Harris, Mrs. Wilkinson, Mrs. McPhillips, Mrs. Andrews, Mrs. McGill, Mrs. Hughes, Mrs. F. Bagley, Mesdames H. Tills, Beale, W. H. Morris, W. A. Thomas, H. Corbett, J. Rusling, L. Grey, L. Brown, W. Cochran, G. Fisher, T. Haskell, B. Hau, J. Marsh, P. G. Knight, Blakeley, Misses M. Rusling, N. Staveley and L. Knight. Mrs. T. Sefton has returned home after spending several months at Auckland. Mrs. D. Harvey and her. mother, Mrs. A. Cole, are visiting Oakura. Mrs. A. Goodwin, Ahu Ahu Road, is the guest of her daughter-in-law,, Mrs. A. Goodwin, Okato.
