RETURNED SOLDIERS
TAUMARUNUI ANNUAL MEETING. MR. W. MEADS AGAIN PRESIDENT. . (Special to Daily News.) Taumarunui, May Thd fifth annual meeting of the Taumarunui Returned Soldiers’ Association was held to-night, Mr. W. Meads presiding over a large attendance, including, members from Ohura, Matiere, Ongafue, Manunui and Owhango. The president reported that the committed held 14 meetings during the year. Many wayfarers were assisted with stores, fares and clothing. The membership of the association had increased to 266. The Poppy Day receipts totalled £46 12s 2d. The annual reunion was a success and the 1934 picpic was attended by over 700. The four ■sub-branches (Ohura, Matiere, Owhango and Manunui) had all increased their membership. The committee had Visited sub-branch . >,V meetings during the year. ■ Mf. Meads said he was pleased to see such a large attendance. He hoped there would be a large gathering at the annual reunion on May 18 when Sir Alexander Russell and Mr. Perry, M.P., would be present. / The balance-sheet showed that the assets of the association amounted to £263 4s Bd. The following officers were elected:— President, Mr. W. Meads; vice-presidents, Messrs. S. A. Morris and W. Parker; hon. vice-president, Miss M. O’Connor; committee, Messrs. R. H. Burt, B. H. Howes, A. Venn and W. G. Simpson; auditor, Mr. L. A. Holford; hon. treasurer, Mr; D. H. Nicholson. ■
