DAMAGE REPAIRED
TOPS BLOWN OFF POWER POLES.' LINESMAN FALLS FROM LADDER. ' The damage to the Taranaki Power Board’s lines as the result of lightning on Tuesday night has been repaired. It was found that the lines had been struck heavily and had suffered severely in some places. On Ahuroa Road, near Toko, the tops were blown off three poles and the crossarms were completely shattered, the pieces being missing. At Huinga and Wharehuia a number of insulators were badly damaged, and every shower of rain caused the line to spark badly. A pole to pole examination was made and all damaged insulators were replaced. The damage to the generating unit was fortunately slight and was repaired during Tuesday night. The transmission system is now fully restored. The display of lightning was one of the most extensive seen by the engineer, Mr. B. H. Goldsmith, and it is considered fortunate that the damage was not greater. During repair work one of the linesmen, Mr. Geo. Snell, fell from a ladder and received injuries to his face and back. He was admitted to the Stratford hospital, where it will be necessary for him to remain under treatment for several days.
