PETER PAN’S RECORD

FAST MILE AT RANDWICK SURPRISE BY MASTER BRIERLY. ROGILLA BEATEN CONVINCINGLY. YOUNG IDEA BEST TWO-YEAR-OLD. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Rec. 7.45 p.m. Sydney, April 25. Brilliantly fine weather prevailed for the third day of the Australian Jockey Club’s autumn meeting at Randwick yesterday. A feature of the day’s racing was the brilliant performance of Peter Pan in recording a new Australian and New Zealand record for a mile.

Silver King and Silver Ring carried the field along at a fast pace from the barrier rise, the first half mile being run in 48 seconds. Peter Pan took charge at the Leger and, although Hall Mark was expected to trouble him in the-run home, Peter Pan Won in easy fashion. High made amends for his narrow Doncaster defeat by getting up in the last few strides to win the Coogee Handicap. Young Idea, who was beaten by Bimilla over six furlongs in the Ascot Vale Stakes at Flemington, turned the tables to-day in another close finish in the Champagne Stakes. Young Idea is now entitled to the honour of being acclaimed the best : two-year-old of the season. The New Zealander Master Brierly occasioned a surprise by downing Rogilla in grand style in the Cumberland Plate. Gold Trail, the favourite as the result of his good Sydney Cup run failed to justify the betters’ confidence in the City Handicap. ' Overtures have been made by one of America’s leading owners for the purchase of Peter Pan, but the owner, states that Peter- Pan will never leavd Australia. Peter Pan’s, fine performance on Wednesday has given rise to comparisons with Phar Lap, but Pike, who has ridden both champions, still declares that there has been only one Phar Lap. He considers that had Phar Lap been extended his times might have been the world’s records. • ‘ The stewards suspended the rider of Rogilla, Pratt, for a month for interference with King March in the Climber land Plate. The jockeys Pratt, Voitre, J. Munro, Coutts and Badger were each fined £5 for disobedience at the post in the Champagne Stakes. The starter stated the reason for 1 fining them was that whereas he called for a walk-up start all the riders rushed to the barrier, Results were:— AUTUMN HURDLE RACE.
