ANNUAL MEETING BUSINESS. i The annual meeting of the Manaia Golf Clhb was held on Tuesday. Mr. W. Spooner presided over a good attendance. Mr. Spooner congratulated the winner of trophies, in both men’s and women’s sections. He mentioned appreciatively the splendid work of the secretary, Mr. G. Meuli, the women for dispensing afternoon teas and others Who assisted to make the past season so succesful. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance on the year’s working of £3l 12s Id. The surplus of assets over liabilities was £lO5.
The election of officers resulted: Patron, Mr. A. G. Bennett; president, Mr. A. M. Mac Diarmid; , vice-presidents, Mr. G. Meuli and Rev. R. Miller; auditor, Mr. A. J. Christie; secretary, Mr. F. Gamer; grounds committee, Messrs. L. Young and F. Walker; general committee, Messrs W. Spooner, J. Scannell and officers; club captain, Mr. W. Armitage; match committee, Messrs. G. Meuli, W. Armitage and F. Gamer.
New members elected were: Mesdames A. Hastie and E. Johnstone, Misses Maureen Burke, G. Hilles, I. McLean, B. Young, P. York, M. Innes, K. Brown and Reekie, Messrs. D. Hayter, C. Hobday, G. Innes ahd A. Marshall. It was decided that steps be taken to z incorporate the golf club and the following were appointed a sub-committee to prepare rules: Messrs. G. Meuli, A. J. Christie and W. Armitage. They are also to report on alterations to the club house. It was decided to hold the annual ba.t and’ a committee was appointed with power to add to make arrangements. It was left to the grounds committee to decide on the opening day. Mr. Spooner moved a vote of thanks to the retiring secretary, Mr. G. Meuli, who had given faithful service for the last five years. Mr. Spooner and Mr. M. Ryan commented on the splendid work of Mr. Meuli. The, resolution was carried by acclamation and Mr. Meuli replied. Votes of thanks were accorded Mr. A. G. Bennett for the use of his office, property owners, donors of trophies and the Press. ■ 1 ■' a PERSONAL ITEMS. A presentation to Miss M. Ballantine in appreciation of her services in charge of the catering arrangements of ( the Hawera Bowling Club was made at the closing day ceremony of the club on Wednesday by Mr. D. McCormick, president, on behalf of members. The death of Patricia Alberta Hall, 12 years old, youngest daughter of Mrs. J. Hall and the late Mr. A. Hall, formerly of Hawera, occurred at Christchurch on Wednesday. Mr. A. E. Gorton, assistant secretary of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association, met the executive of the South Taranaki association at Hawera on Thursday night. Routine matters were discussed and further arrangements in regard to certain prison cases were made.
