RUGBY BROADCASTS

RADIO SOCIETY’S DECISION. --- -- . ✓ ' EQUIPMENT FOR THE STUDIO. Decision was reached at last night’s meeting of the North Taranaki, Radio Society, presided over by the chairman, . Mr. I. W. B. Roy, to inform the Taranaki Rugby Union of Its willingness to broadcast matches on the same terms as last season, with the addition that if the Taranaki Rugby ,League had not made application by the next meeting the Rugby Union be given full broadcasts. It was left in the hands of the secretary, Mr. W. H. Quickfall, to make application for permission to go on the air on Saturday afternoons and to continue 'the 8 to 10 p.m. Friday evening sessions, which had proved popular. An application from the Girls’ -High School for a broadcast of the opening of the jubilee celebrations .on Saturday and the Sunday afternoon service was received by letter. Regret was expressed that it was impossible to relay on Saturday, but that a broadcast of Sunday’s service could be arranged. A request that the Anzac service at Pukekura Park from 10.45 to 12 be broadcast this year was received. It was pointed out by the chairman that a broadcast would suffer acoustically from the loud speaker service that was to be installed for the benefit of those attending the parade. The matter- will be discussed with Major Conway. The same trouble applied to the broadcast of events which will probably be held in conjunction with the King’s jubilee celebrations.

It was decided to discontinue relayed - broadcasts from the East End pavilion. It was stated that several complaints had been received in this connection. • Mr. Payne in referring to the selection of records for concert programmes said it would help considerably if a turntable were available to try the records. It was decided that a new amplifier be built for trying records and that two new turntables be procured. Thanks were extended to Mr. L. F. Binns for constructing furniture and shelves in the studio. Present at the meeting were Messrs. v 1. W. B. Roy (chairman), E. Payne, L. F. Binns, J. A. Pigott, B. A. Hipst, H. A. Lee and W. H. Quickfall (hon. secretary). - . • ■ .
