PEOPLING DOMINIONS
FORECAST BY THE CHANCELLOR. POPULATION QF RIGHT BREED. By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. London, April 15. In his speech on the income tax concessions in the Budget Mr. Chamberlain said that though Britain might at present seem to have a population bigger than she could support and the Dominions were unable to accommodate a*’’ larger population as they were troubled with unemployment, he had a feeling that the time was not far distant when the position would.be reversed and the Dominions would be crying out for population" of the right breed which Britain might- be unable to supply. If Britain could give them a little help to carry on the rape the money would not be wasted.
Mr. J. H. Thomas, Secretary for the Dominions, informed Sir John WardlawMilne in the House of Commons that replies had been received to the interdepartmental report "on migration from New Zealand, Queensland and South Australia. It was hoped that the presence at London of the Dominion Prime Ministers would provide an opportunity for a preliminary discussion on migration. Britain did not desire to encourage emigration until the Dominions were ready to receive migrants and provide chances for them.
