KAIMIRO NEWS

ACTIVITIES OF TENNIS CLUBS. A general meeting of the Kaimiro Tennis Club was recently held to decide on a site for two concrete courts'which it is proposed to lay down this winter. The chairman, Mr. Read, in his opening remarks outlined a few basic principles to be considered in choosing a site of this nature. After much discussion it Was decided that Mr. L. Schicker be approached with a view to obtaining from him a piece of land. The question of subscriptions was held over until the- beginning of next season. At a subsequent committee meeting detailed arrangements ■ made for the forthcoming ball. Aiiother successful tournament for ■trophies given by Mr. and Mrs. L Gopperth was organised recently; In the final Mrs. L. Schicker and R. Trueman beat Miss V. Peters and F. Irvine by a narrow margin. An enjoyable evening was held recently in the hall in aid of school funds. Music was supplied by Messrs. J. Shoemark and Old. The environment of the school has been greatly improved by the recent visit of the painters. It is intended to hold further working bees to make other improvements to the grounds. A source of danger to the hall and to all traffic on the Egmbnt Road was recently removed with a considerable amount of difficulty. It was a particularly high pinis insignis tree which developed a dangerous lean across the road. Last week the owner, Mr. O. Peters, decided to remove it as tt was beginning to crack ominously.' JL large number of local residents assembled and by late afternoon the task was accomplished without accident. The county council has recently been

at work rolling and grading Egmont and Lepper roads. After the recent floods the Egmont road was particularly rough. This, combined with the extensive detour necessary for traffic from New Plymouth has affected the number of visitors to the mountain. The main road, however, is now open and the Egmont road in first-class order.
