Sir Henry Bencraft, a former member of the M.C.C. committee, on behalf of the M.C.C., welcomed the South African cricketers at Southampton. Mr. S. J. Snooke, manager, said that the matches would be played in a sporting spirit, and there would not be trouble of any sort. Mr. Snooke mentioned that the team possessed an asset in its youth, the oldest player, Vincent, being 32.
