COMMITTEE FORMED

SOUTH TARANAKI HOCKEY CLUBS. INAUGURAL MEETING HELD. A decision to form a Hawera executive representing Hawera and district hockey clubs was made at a meeting on Thursday night. The object of the executive will be to attend to details of purely South Taranaki interest and the committee will have no standing with the Taranaki Association. Each South Taranaki club will be entitled to two delegates on the committee. The election of officers will be made at the next meeting of the committee, to which all clubs will be invited. The meeting will be held probably on April 24. Those present were Messrs. C. J. Roberts (chairman), R. Clarke, F. E. Starling, H. Westwood (Egmont), A. E. Hodder, N. E. Simon (Hawera), G. Howatson (Nolantown), A. Davies and H. Le Fleming (Whakamara). The object of the meeting was to form a combined executive, said Mr. Roberts in opening the meeting. The executive would act on the lines of the combined swimming clubs of New Plymouth. It was felt that a committee, representing about 100 players, could discuss and arrange various things affecting hockey. To a question by Mr. • Howatson, Mr. Roberts, said the committee would ha-" no official standing with the Taranaki Association. The chairman said he did not think the association would be agcinst the proposal. Those present discussed the position of a separate association, but it was considered that it would be impossible for a separate association to obtain affiliation with the New Zealand association this season.

On the motion of Mr. Starling it was decided to form a Hawera executive. Mr. N. Simon was elected secretary pro tern.

“FORSAKING ALL OTHERS." OPERA HOUSE ATTRACTION. An all-star cast with the speed and sparkle of “The Thin Man," appears in “Forsaking All Others,”’Screening at the Opera House to-day for . a three-night season with matinees daily at 2 p.m. Joan Crawford, Clark Gable and Robert Montgomery, together for the first time, head the cast, which includes Billie Burke, Charles Butterworth, Frances Drake and Ted Healy. With a line-up of this kind, the greatest since “Dinner at Eight,” and with the direction of W. S. Van Dyke (who directed “The Thin Man”), it is natural that the new picture should be first-class. Each star seems to have forgotten his or her stardom, and at Van Dyke’s magical touch, concentrated on outdoing the other at turning in the best performance of the year. Joan Crawford is at her best as the society girl pursued by two men, but with a great sense of humour about it. A special attraction at the Opera House to-night will be the appearance of the Roland Sextette from 7.30 to 8 p.m. These wonderful juvenile musicians have just returned from a successful world tour. Their playing is memorable.
