YOUNG WOMEN’S CLUB

NEW BRANCH OF Y.W.C.A. OPENING AT NEW PLYMOUTH. The young women’s club, a new branch of the Y.W.C.A. at New Plymouth, was successfully opened at New Plymouth yesterday. Mrs. H. Masters, who acted as chairman, outlined the purpose of the new club and said it had been felt for Some time that such a group was needed within the Y.W.-Y.M.C.A. of New Plymouth. The basis of membership for the club was membership in the Y.W.C.A. and the club was divided into interest circles. United meeting of the circles would take place monthly. This would be of an educational and social nature, and would include general members as well.

Miss M. Greenwell, general secretary of the New Plymouth Y.W.-Y.M.C.A., spoke on the Y.W.C.A. as a women’s movement. She outlined its purpose and aims through the three sides of the triangle, which were faith, growth and service.

The Y.W.C.A. was a fellowship composed of women of various ages, types, interests and ideals.' It was the great international Christian movement for women. From the beginning the international and religious ideals had been most prominent. It was a plastic movement, seeking to adapt itself to the changing needs of girls and women in all phases of their growth and development. It was the variety of its membership together with its plastic nature that made so —iplex a movement. Miss Greenwell closed by emphasising the unity of spirit attained in the Y.W.C.A., especially through its national and world conferences.

Mrs. P. C. Davie, accompanied by Mrs. R. L. Cooper, sang an attractive group of songs. Afternoon tea was served by the committee, and it was decided the club was officially formed.

Tb<~ election of the officers resulted: President, Mrs. H. Masters; vice-presi-dent, Mrs. G. W. Haughton; committee, Mesdames Quickfall, Ivil, Croll, Tingey, Mander, Sheat, Lealand.
