NORMANBY CONTROL
MEETING OF THE TOWN BOARD. QUESTION OF UNEMPLOYED. The monthly meeting of the Normanby Town Board was held on Tuesday night, there being present Messrs. D. A. Stewart (chairman), J. T. Young and J. A. Archbold. . The ranger and dog tax collector reported that all dogs, with the exception of three; were registered. Mr. Hardway tendered his resignation as ranger on account of his leaving the district. It was decided to call applications for the position, the works committee being empowered to make an appointment. A letter was received from the Hawera postmaster asking the board, to collect a small sum of money from a relief worker who had been overpaid. -It was decided to write stating that the board accepted no responsibility in the matter as the worker was under the jurisdiction of the Hawera Mayor. A letter was received from the Treasury stating that £25.0 could be issued for the board to proceed with the main street -work. It was decided that the board would not require to borrow the amount. The clerk reported having written to the Minister of Employment and the member for the district, pointing out that the Hawera Unemployment Committee would not grant the board the services of local relief workers. The Commissioner of Employment wrote that he would place the position before the Un- ■ employment Board and Mr. C. A. Wilkinson stated that he had written to the Minister of Employment, The Hawera committee wrote stating that a communication from the Unemployment Board suggesting the utilisation of Normanby’s unemployed at Normanby had been received and the committee wished to know what the important work was. It was decided to supply the information. After the town board business short meetings of the domain and cemetery boards were held. The advisability of gradually felling the old-pine trees round the boundary fence and planting new trees was fully discussed and the matter held over. As the lease of the Domain expires on April 1 it was decided to call for tenders for a further term. It was decided to stipulate that no dairy cattle be grazed. Personal. A motion of sympathy wa® passed with the relatives of the late Mf. J. R. Corrigan'... at a meeting of the Normanby Town Board on Tuesday. ; The Rev. K. J. Watson, Presbyterian minister, who has been on holiday for several weeks in the South Island, has returned to Normanby.
