FINE ORGANISATION

ELECTRIC LIGHT SPORTS. SUCCESS OF STRATFORD EVENT. If the Stratford Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club had had years of experience it could hardly have improved on the organisation that characterised its initial electric light meeting on Tuesday. The programme was no small one and many thought the club was unduly ambitious in calculating that the meeting would take only two and a-quarter • hours, yet the time limit was exceeded by only a few minutes, which were accounted for by the need to re-run the one mile cycle event. Competitors were warned in ample time to be on their marks, and if they were not at the starting point the event was started on time. Much delay that frequently occurs in that direction was thus obviated, so that the applause at the finish of one event had hardly died down before the starting gun signalised that another was in progress. FAREWELL TO GOVERNOR. MESSAGE FROM ELTHAM. The Mayor of Eltham, Mr. I. J. Bridger, has despatched the following farewell telegram to His Excellency the Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe: “Oh the eve of your departure from our shores I desire on behalf of the residents of Eltham to bid Your Excellencies a most affectionate farewell. Your deep sympathetic interest in our national welfare has undoubtedly established a permanent and an endearing memory with all sections of the people. Please accept yourself and convey to Lady Bledisloe the deep gratitude and appreciation of the pople of Eltham.”
