MATA SUNDAY SCHOOL

PICNIC HELD AT STRATFORD. The Mata Sunday school held its annual picnic . at King Edward Park, Stratford, on Saturday. There was a lollie scramble and afternoon tea was provided. The Rev. J. A. Rybum presented the children with book prizes. Good attendance prizes were awarded Nancy, Kathleen, and Andrew Slater. Cheers were given the teachers, Misses Pitcaithly and Oldfield. “Welcome Home” Evening. A “welcome home” evening was given Mr. and Mrs. A. Willshaw in the Mata hall on Friday. Mr. B. Dive wished the guests of honour good luck and they were accorded musical honours. Miss E. Dive contributed a song. Monte Carlo dances were won by Miss H. Martin and Mr. E. Jacobson and Miss R. Jacobsen and Mr. J. Swindlehirst. Dance music wsa played by Miss N. Prince and extras by Mrs. P. G. Druce and Miss R. Jordan. Mr. F. Martin was master of ceremonies. Personal Items. e Mrs. W. Worthington has returned to Mata from hospital. Mrs. Edwards, Auckland, has been staying with her sister, Mrs. W. Treweek. Mrs. A. Kingan spent a few days last week with her mother, Mrs. Kovaleski, Tuna. PRIZES FOR ART WORK MISS R. MEE AND MR. H. PURSER. Prizes for the best original work done during the recess of the North Taranaki Arts and Crafts Society were awarded at its monthly meeting in the studio on Tuesday night to Miss Rachel Mee and Mr. Howard Purser. Miss Mee submitted a water colour sketch and Mr. Purser a pencil sketch of an old building. The special committee experienced much difficulty in allotting the prizes, given by the president Mr. H. M. Bacon, on account of the even quality of the entries. At the meeting Miss Mee continued her instructional talks, her subject being picture composition. Practice was provided when the members were given a number of subjects on which to illustrate from memory and points brought out in the talk.
