SPORTS AND PASTIMES CLUB. SCHOOL PICNIC AT NGAMOTU. The annual meeting of tire Tariki Sports and Pastimes Club was held recently. The president, Mr. W. J. Byrne, was in the chair. • The president congratulated members on the satisfactory position of the club, which had a substantial balance. The ten-a-side Easter football tournament was again successful. Congratulations were extended to Okaiawa on winning the Cassidy Cup and to the runner-up, Rawhitiroa. The annual school game' between Norfolk Road and Tariki for the club’s cup aroused great inte«ii, the game ending in a draw, it being decided that each school hold it six months. The club had not held any boxing or wrestling tournaments in the past year, but hoped to in the coming one. Members would note that the bal-ance-sheet showed a credit balance of over £45, which in only two years’ working was very creditable. With another Easter success, one of the objects of the club (a gymnasium), was in sight. He thanked all who assisted in any way, especially the women, the central division referees and the Press. The election of officers resulted: Patron, Mr. J. Gibbs; president, Mr. W. J. Byrne; vice-presidents, Messrs. H. McCullum, S. Walker and T. Huzziff; secretary, Mr. H. Gush; treasurer, Mr. E. Mahon; auditor, Mr. W. W. Blair; management committee, Messrs. W. J. Byrne, H. McCullum, T. Huzziff, L. Hollis, S. Walker, T. Rumball and secretary; club captain, Mr. R. Rumball; vice-captain, Mr. F. Butler.

The Tariki school picnic, which had to be postponed on account of the weather, was held under ideal conditions last Friday at Ngamotu beach. The school children travelled, as last year, at the committee’s expense by train. Fruit and sweets were supplied on the train. An event thoroughly enjoyed by the children was the treasure hunt in the sand.

Mahon and I. McCullum, assisted in the removal of the cows belonging to Mu. Jakes, Waipuku, which were so badly injured by the mail train on Saturday night. After helping to get the injured animals removed they made certain of the safety of the Rotorua excursion, which had to be delayed. Mr. F. Woodward, of the railway staff, is on annual leave. Mrs. E. Therkleson and Miss Joan Therkleson have left on a motoring tour of the North Island. Mrs. W. Laurence, who has been visiting Stratford, has returned. Mr. E. W. Hartigan, Wanganui, is on relieving duty in the absence of Mr. F. Woodward at the railway station. Miss Foster, Auckland, is visiting her sister, Mrs. H. Kerr, Surrey Road. Messrs. W. Blair, H. Rumball, H. Summers and, W. Morse, of the Tariki Bowling Club, are visiting New Plymouth for the jubilee celebrations. The Tariki Basketball Club is holding its annual meeting on Wednesday. The Tariki territorials are holding a dance and euchre party on April 2. The first combined practice of Tariki hockey -players and intending players is next week-end.
