OPPOSITION TO SALES TAX.
By Telegraph—Press Association. Waipukurau, March 12.
The Patangata County Council, at the monthly meeting in Waipukurau to-day, supported the overture of the Christchurch City Council protesting against the clause in the Mortgage Corporation Bill containing the power of the Crown to repudiate liability for rates on reverted properties. A largely attended meeting of the Chamber of Commerce passed a resolution against the continued collection of sales tax. The growth in the amount was pointed to as seriously affecting spending power. Opposition to discrimination between city and country rates of relief pay was also expressed, but satisfaction ivas expressed with a semi-provincial adjustment of differential rates arising from the new scale.
