HAWERA TRACK WORK

AGA KHAN FOR WAIKATO.

(By

“Limited.”)

Fine though cool weather was experienced at the Hawera tracks yesterday while training operations were in pro-, gress. A number of horses recently raced have resumed serious work in view of the Wellington and Manawatu meetings. The plough track was used and was in splendid order.

Aga Khan’s departure for the Waikato meeting to-day was delayed until yesterday. He again displayed good form. Aga Khan’s (Cole) task was over seven furlongs and, picking up Diagano (Edgecombe) at the six furlongs, the pair were level after half a mile covered in 525. Aga Khan had no difficulty in finishing in front at the end of the seven, taking Im. 31|s. and doing .it comfortably. ' Carfex (Cole) ran five furlongs alone in Im. 3 4-ss.

;J. Fryer’s Weathervane—Elaing gelding, Haunui, is doing his work well and was given strong pace work. Golden Hair (Feasey) showed improvement by running her first two furlongs smartly and finishing, up her half mile in 49Js. March Alone, who has not been asked to do anything strenuous since Opunake, was exercised on the lead with Onewhetu. Besides the highweight events at Trentham March Alone has been nominated for the Champion Hack Cup, one mile and three furlongs—a distance he should see out well if started.

Ingenuity (Duncan), another entrant for the Champion Hack Cup, was galloped . with Arouse (Cole) over seven furlongs. Ingenuity, who invariably races better than her track work would indicate, was easily held by Arouse at the end of the gallop in. Im. 345. Arouse shaped well and might run a mile well. He will probably race at the Manawatu fixture.

St. Clara was given steady pace work.

Harvest Moon (Cole) broke 255. for his first two furlongs of a half mile gallop in 50 3-ss. , , ' Ruri was exercised on the lead with Copey. Panloff and Porotu did steady exercise work.

Topthorn did his usual pace exercise and Friesland did easy work. • * . A solid looking five-year-old gelding by Cynic from the Hallowmas mare Solemnity, the latter from Solemn, has made his appearance on the tracks and this morning galloped in attractive. style for an initial attempt. Carrying J. Dombroski, he sprinted three furlongs with Autumn Leaf (Mills), the pair covering the distance in 38Js. This horse is an admirable cut of a jumper with plenty of size and substance, and should prove useful at the hurdling business. Dombroski, who served his apprenticeship with C. Jackson and was quite a successful horseman a few years ago, and is now looking after the Cynic gelding, has him in splendid condition to start serious work. • ■ The Diacquenod-Vivo three-year-old Daivet, who proved disappointing, has been taken out of training and Vivo’s second foal, a well-grown yearling colt by Capt. Bunsby, has taken his place in J. Fryer’s stable.

Fryer has also received an addition to his team in a two-year-old halfbrother to the steeplechaser Omeo by Colossus from Munitioness, and the northerner Soloist, by Hunting Song from Supremacy’s dam. Soloist gave evidence of being very useful before’ going amiss. FLEMINGTON MEETING. NEW ZEALAND ACCEPTORS. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright Rec. 8.50 p.m. Melbourne, March 7.
