CRICKET AT HAWERA

WEDNESDAY DEFEATS RURAL TEAM STAND MADE BY THE TAIL. The efforts of Rogers, Thomas and Barnes in the latter part of the innings of the South Taranaki Wednesday cricket representatives against the Rural Association's representatives at Hawera yesterday gave the southern team a substantial win over the rural team. The Wednesday team batted first and the excellent bowling of Skipper, Campbell and Toro kept the scoring down, the team losing six wickets for 84 runs. It was then that the three batsmen took charge and 105 runs were added for the next two wickets. The innings closed at 190. Skipper, Campbell and Toro bore the brunt of the attack. Toro took four wickets and the other, two two each. Gane (10 not out) was the only batsman to reach double figures in Rural s first innings, which closed for 71. Fraser took four wickets, and Kennedy, Fleet and Thomas two each. Rural batted a

second time with more success, the innings realising 96 for nine wickets at the call of time. Campbell, retired with 30 to his credit, Howell compiled 22 and H; Hughes and Linn 14 each.
