WORLD CHAMPIONS.

SWIMMERS AT NEW PLYMOUTH.

Jean Taris and Emil Poussard, the French swimming and diving champions, have reached Auckland, states a telegram received by Mr. J. Devine, secretary of the Taranaki Swimming Centre, yesterday. Taris and Poussard, who are to swim at New Plymouth to-morrow night, were impressive in a training exhibition, it was stated. The carnival for the French swimmer and diver promises to be the best ever held in Taranaki. Though neither will compete in handicap events, they will give complete exhibitions of their capabilities which should prove of far greater value to enthusiasts.

Besides the overseas swimmers, an attraction in itself will be the appearance of W. Hassan, New Zealand diving champion' for the past two years, and now a resident of New Plymouth. Hassan and Poussard will take part in a joint exhibition.

Hawera will play the winner of Fitzroy A and New Plymouth B in the final of the Taranaki water polo championship for the Garth Cup and Miss L. Wickham, Stratford, will attack her own Taranaki breaststroke record. Travelling with Taris and Poussard will be Mr. C. Bryant, chairman of the New Zealand Swimming Council, who is also Dominion starter. He will officiate tomorrow night. and will also present the trophies. . ! *
