SAILOR FINED AT NEW PLYMOUTH.
MAN OFF THE PORT HUNTER.
’ Alfred Frampton Wiles, aged 32, a seaman on the motor-vessel Port Hunter, was fined £5 by Mr. W. H. Woodward, S.M., in the New Police Court yesterday on three charges of theft. As the Port Hunter was to sail last night Wiles was dealt with summarily. Complaints were received yesterday morning from guests of the Imperial Hotel that their rooms had been entered and a camera and case valued at £5, the property of Mrs. J. Power, 10 picture slides, articles of clothing and 16s of a total value of £2 17s 6d, belonging to Mr. A. Russell, and a safety razor and case, belonging to Mr. Morris, had been stolen, according to Detective Meiklejohn. The police had ascertained that the camera had been left at a shop at New Plymouth and some other articles in another building. Some of the clothing, the razor and the slides were recovered, but the slides were ruined. Wiles was fined £5, half of which is to be given to Mr. Russell, on one charge and convicted and discharged on the other two. 4 /.
