HUIROA COUNTRY FAIR

DISTRICT SUCCESS ACHIEVED.

A country fair, organised by the women of the district, was held at the Huiroa hall on Thursday afternoon and proved a distinct success. The hall was decorated with blue, pink and green streamers, the work of Mrs. Potroz and her band of helpers. Stalls to match the hall were attractively. set out. The stallholders were: Needlework, Mesdames Wickham and J. Wallace and Miss M. Blair; cake, Mrs. Williams and Miss P. Wallace; sweets, Misses Joyce Wallace and G. Rodgers; hoopla, Mrs. A. Marin and Mr. A. H. Bowen; produce, Mesdames R. Mitchell and F. Rodgers; meat, Messrs. Len Wickham, H. R. Wickham, A. H. Bowen and Miss V. Rodgers. Afternoon tea was supplied by Mesdames Potroz and W. H. Wallace and Misses Doris Martin and Tui Fraser.

Many visitors • from surrounding districts were met by Mesdames J. H. Stove and A. H. Bowen. In declaring the fair open, Mrs. R. Masters, Stratford, remarked how wonderfully the stalls were set off and congratulated the residents of district on the good showing made. Miss Gwen Stove presented Mrs. Masters with a bouquet.

Songs were sung by Mrs. E. Walter, Mrs. A. Walter, Miss Amy Walter, Mr. E. Cole and Jackson Brown; quartette, Mrs. A. Walter, Mrs. E. Walter, Mr. E. Cole and Jackson Brown. Miss Joyce Taylor played the accompaniments and Miss Joyce Wallace a pianoforte solo. A dance was held at night when the hall was crowded. Vinsen’s Ambassadors played the music and Mr. H. Read was master of ceremonies. B. Elder gave a step dance. The Monte Carlo was won by Miss Rawlinson and Mr. Simmons, the mystery train by Miss Rodgers and Mr. A. Smith and a competition by Mrs. Black, Stratford. Personal Notes. Mrs. V. Bevins is the guest of her sister at Wellington. Mrs. H. Bowen and her daughter Margaret, Bulls, are spending the holidays with Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Bowen. Miss Tui Fraser is on holiday at New Plymouth. Mr. Len. Wickham, Cardiff, has been spending a few days with his brother, Mr. H. R. Wickham.
