SCHOOL COMMITTEES NECESSARY. VALUE OF EDUCATION BOARDS. “I am of the opinion,” said the Hon. S. G. Smith (Minister of Education) at the West End school jubilee gathering last night, “that it is absolutely necessary that both education boards and school committees should be retained; if education is going to make progress in | New Zealand. Any cutting out of the ■ personal attention that can be maintained only by boards and committees can only result in an increase or expense and a loss of general community interest—a most important consideration.” •
Mr. Smith said that the moving of the West End school from its old site, in St. Aubyn Street to its present more commodious and congenial position, with the remodelling ( of the building, was a fine example of the combined effort of the board and the committee. .
