WIN FOR S. CLIFFORD JONES. STROMBOM LOSES CLUB FINAL. ! The singles championship of the New Plymouth Tennis Club was won by S. Clifford-Jones on Saturday, when he just beat C. H. Strombom in a strenuous match that went to five sets. CliffordJones took the deciding set 7—5, after Strombom held the lead 5—3 and 30—15. The game was the finest club final played at the New Plymouth club for many years. Clifford-Jones’ baseline game was very sound and it was here that he beat Strombom, who did well whenever he was able to hold a net position. . Clifford-Jones has now beaten Strombom several times this season.
