With the permission of the Commonwealth Government Egon Kisch, the Czecho-Slovakian author who was declared a prohibited immigrant, will leave Australia almost immediately. It was stated at a meeting of the committee arranging a torchlight procession for the release of Kisch and Gerald Griffin, the New Zealander who, like Kisch, was declared an undesirable immigrant, that Kisch would be allowed to catch a boat for England on Thursday. The. acting-Attorney-General, Senator T. C. Brennan, stated that negotiations were proceeding between the Commonwealth law authorities and Kisch’s legal advisers by which the Commonwealth would consent to Kisch leaving Australia,
At present Kisch is under sentence of three months’ imprisonment for being an undesirable prohibited immigrant. He appealed successfully twice to the High Court and has two appeals pending. By the Commonwealth agreeing to his leaving these appeals will be dropped and the Commonwealth will not seek to have Kisch serve his sentence.
