MONEY FOR RELIEF

DISTRICT NURSE COMMITTEE. SHARE OF ART UNION PROCEEDS. A gift by the Government of £lOO for relief purposes from the proceeds of the “Lucky For Me” art union was acknowledged by the New Plymouth district nurse committee at its first monthly meeting this year. There were present Mesdames F. E. Wilson (chairman), T. Fookes, N. Balharry, H. V. S. Griffiths, J. White, E. E. Evans, D. Cameron (acting hon. secretary) and Sister M. Jackson. The resignation of Mrs. M. Avery as convener for the sewing guild and delegate to the child welfare committee was received with regret. The appointment of a new convener presented some difficulty, but the chairman said the guild was too valuable to be allowed to lapse. The matter was held over. The sum of £2 2s was granted to Sister Jackson to defray incidental expenses. The report for January showed that 40 or 50 parcels were distributed among the children at Christmas time, gifts of toys, clothing and sweets having been received for the purpose. January had been an easy month, reported the district nurse, Sister M. Jackson. Relieving duty was done by Sister Sumner. The number of new patients on the register was 26, patients discharged 16, transferred to hospital 1, remaining 14. Visits to homes for treatment and advice numbered 200, inquiries 116 and charitable aid recipients 21. Fifty-nine articles of clothing were given to 18 families. The association acknowledged gifts from the following: Mesdames Brash, H. Fookes, Loveridge, Ross, Reardon, Baily, Veale, Taylor, Muir, McPhillips, Bain, Haughton, Collins, Brodie and Rich, and Misses Homer, Atkinson, Musker, the nurses’ home, Kent Road sewing guild and “Anon.” A donation was received from Mrs. H. M. Cook.
