SURF COMPETITIONS

WEST COAST CHAMPIONSHIPS. FITZROY IN FOUR EVENTS. The Fitzroy Surf Club will be represented by two teams and will take part in four events at the West Coast surf championships at Wanganui at the week-end. The club will also take part in the carnival procession at Wanganui on Saturday night. For the four-men alarm championship for the Gibson Cup two teams have been entered, the B team, J. Elmes, R. Voullaire, F. Florence, S. Alsop, being the New Zealand champion team. The A team will comprise L. Charters, C. Maclean, N. J. Gardiner and R. Grace. The Hackshaw Searle Shield for the West Coast senior championship will find Fitzroy senior and junior teams competing. The A team will be N. Gardiner (capt), C. 'Maclean, R. Voullaire, S. Alsop, R. Grace, F. Florence and J. Elmes, and the B team will comprise K. Kilpatrick (capt), L. Bennett, L. Charters, B. Hunter, A. Crombie, N. Elmes and R. Alsop. In the surf teams race the team will be R. Voullaire, C. Maclean, L. Charters and L. Bennett, and in the march past Maclean, Gardiner, J. Elmes, S. Alsop, Voullaire, Florence, Charters, Grace, Hunter or Bennett. Fitzroy and other New Plymouth teams will probably combine in a large party to travel by the Wanganui express on Saturday afternoon.
