APPRECIATED BY OLD PUPILS. The Toko Old Pupils’ Association held its first meeting of the year on Friday. There was considerable discussion on the activities of the association during the year, particularly as to what steps should be taken to maintain and improve the school baths. The president, Mr. A. Raynor, said the school committee deserved a great deal of credit for what had been done so far and he thought that the old pupils association should back up the school committee in every way possible. Funds were needed and it was not right that the school committee should have to bear the whole burden. Mr. Harper said the baths had been a wonderful asset to the school. At the beginning of last season only about a dozen children could swim properly, but at the end of the season over 60 could swim well, while 30 qualified for certificates issued by the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association for distances of 50 yards, 220 yards and 880 yards. This year 28 had qualified so far, and others were awaiting their turn. It meant that every child that passed through the school would be able to swim well. It was decided to take active steps to solicit the support not only of those who used the baths but also of the general public. Messrs. Ernest Milne, G. Anderson, H. Bergham, H. Gold up, E. Jones, H. Were and the president were appointed a subcommittee. RURAL CRICKET. REPRESENTATIVE TEAMS.
