Since he began playing for Surrey in 1905 he has scored 61.221 runs and has made 197 centuries. Both are records. t The cricket writer of the Times says Hobbs is one of the four greatest batsmen of all time. By his tremendous skill and his charming and generous character he rose to a height equalled by Ranji. , ■'
