KING COUNTRY ROADS

DAMAGE CAUSED BY RAINS. CLOSING OF MAIN HIGHWAY. (By Telegraph—Special to News.) Taumarunui, Last Night The recent heavy rain has been responsible for many slips coming down on roads in the King Country counties, and during the past several days extra workmen have been busily engaged clearing a way for traffic. The Te Kuiti-Bulls main highway between Owhango and Oio, which is being widened and straightened, is now closed for traffic and motorists going south have to travel to Raurimu via Oio No. 2 road and Kaitieke. Notices warning motorists that the road had been closed have been posted at Oio No. 2 road and at Hukapapa. A few dry days will enable workmen to pumice the road, which will then be available for traffic.
