NEVILLE’S JUNIOR RACE
NEVILLE’S JUNIOR RACE. WAITEMATA SECOND AND THIRD. J. Neville, New Plymouth Old Boys, Taranaki’s promising young swimmer, scored a good win in the junior individual surf race. There were fourteen starters in the event representing North Shore (Auckland), Opunake; Maranui, Old Boys, Takapuna, East End, Lyall Bay and Waitemata. The race commenced from the beach and consisted of a straight swim to a buoy 200 yards out and back to the beach. Neville led the field round the buoy and increased his lead gradually with an easy stroke. He finished 15 yards ahead of A. Pascoe, Waitemata, with D. Hardy of the same team third. Neville’s time was 6m. 15s.
