ANNUAL GATHERING

CARDIFF CRICKET BALL. HARVESTERS AT CRICKET. The annual cricket ball was held at Cardiff on Tuesday when a large gathering of dancers was treated to an enjoyable evening. No effort had been spared to make the evening a success. Vinsen’s Ambassadors played the music. The master of ceremonies was Mr. C. Hawkes. Extras were played by Messrs. V. Henry and R. Huckstep. On Tuesday afternoon the cricket ground was the scene of another match between harvesting gangs, the Hard Hitters and the Go-getters. Mr. E. Bennett captained the former and Mr. P. Hom the latter. In their two innings the Hard Hitters made 103 and excitement was very high when Go-getters in the second strike had their last man batting and still required two runs to equal this score. A rather risky single had spectators on their toes but a well hit four by Horn put the issue beyond doubt and the innings closed with the score 107. ELTHAM TALKIES. WILL ROGERS COMEDY. His performance stands alone for sheer dramatic power, and seldom has he had such opportunities to call both tears and laughter from his audiences. Life in the sleepy Kentucky town of the early nineties supplies the background for the story, and much delicious humour is supplied by the negroes. There is a world of humanity in this picture, with Anita Louise, Tom Brown, Rochelle Hudson and Francis Ford all happily cast
