Ammon Ra’s Relation.
Prior to the recent Rotorua fixture Astarth, the well-bred three-year-old half-sister by Chief Ruler to Ammon Ra, had raced disappointingly. However, at Rotorua Astarth gained her initial win in a manner that suggested she has cOme right. Although the opposition she defeated was nothing to enthuse over, Astarth gained her Victory in effortless fashion. She is a racy-looking filly, and looks certain to improve with maturity. Astarth is owned by the Cambridge sportsman, Mr. L. S. Otway, whose colours have recently been carried successfully by Coronis. Rebel Chief Reappears. When racing in the spring Rebel Chief flashed into prominence from out of the hack ranks by defeating some of the leading handicap sprinters at Trentham. Over six ’furlongs Rebel Chief is considered to be one of the fastest horses in training at Riccarton and, doubtless in view of the important Easter racing carnivals at Riccarton, he has lately made his reappearance on the tracks. Rebel Chief’s past performance left the impression that he is best suited by an easy track.
