SPLENDID ENTRIES
COMBINED CLUBS’ CARNIVAL. FOUR PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONS. The swimming champions of New Zealand and Dunedin, Wellington, Wanganui and Taranaki will compete at the New Plymouth combined swimming clubs’ carnival at the Municipal baths tomorrow night. Splendid entries have been received and the class of swimmer engaged is the best that has ever been concentrated in Taranaki. Owing to the large number of entries received in the handicap events the committee deemed it necessary to delete the inter-club relay from the programme. There will be present W. J. Jarvis, Dunedin, holder of the New Zealand 100 yards and 220 yards title and 50 yards record, P. Mathieson, New Zealand title record holder in various backstroke events, J. P. Carde and K. Welsh, Wanganui champions, C. E. Claridge, J. Blakeley and D. Plank, Wellington champions, J. Neville, B. Milne and H. St. George, Taranaki’s best. P. Mathieson will attempt to break the New Zealand 100 metres backstroke record during the carnival and Milne is to attack the 100 yards Taranaki freestyle record.
