BEST SALE FOR YEARS
MASTERTON RAM FAIR SUCCESS. SHARP ADVANCE IN THE PRICES. By Telegraph—Press Association. Masterton, Last Night. The Masterton A. and P. Association ram fair, which opened to-day, was characterised by auctioneers and other competent observers as the best sale for years’. There was an unsatisfied demand for good quality fine woollen sheep, and the prices realised were well in advance of vendors’ expectations. There was a buoyant tone throughout and the spirited bidding was in direct contrast to the sales of recent years. Practically every Romney catalogued was disposed of, either under the hammer or by private treaty. The top price for flock Romneys was 21 guineas, but there were many doublefigure prices. The top price for stud Romneys was 50 guineas. There was no demand for stud or flock Lincolns. Prices generally showed a sharp increase compared with last year.
