INFLUX OF VISITORS

CROWDS EXPECTED AT WEEK-END. HEAVY RAILWAY BOOKINGS MADE. Already there are indications that there will be almost a record influx of visitors at New Plymouth at the weekend for the New Zealand surf championships on the Fitzroy beach. The Railway Department reports that special trains are filling up rapidly. On the trains from Wanganui and Opunake already 13 carriages have been booked and it is expected that two separate trains will have to run. It was originally intended that the Opunake train would join with the one from Wanganui at Te Roti but there is now every probability of separate trains.

The Taumaranui excursion is expected to bring, between 12 and 15 carriages, and with' the usual Sunday train from Hawera well over 1200 persons will arrive by rail. In addition to these there will be a special excursion train from Auckland. So far the time table has not be definitely fixed but it is thought that this * train will arrive at some time on Saturday morning. The New Plymouth hotels report heavy bookings, many from as far north as Auckland and as far south as Christchurch. News from other parts of Taranaki indicates there will be large numbers arriving by cars both on Saturday and Sunday. ‘ Provided that the weather is favourable, there will probably be an influx of nearly 5000 people into New Plymouth at the week-end.
