WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
Kakaramca: The first monthly meeting of 1935 was held by the Kakaramea Women’s Institute in the Kakaramea hall on Friday. Mrs. Ramsbottom presided over a good attendance. Nominations for officers for the ensuing year were received. After the usual business the afternoon was spent in competitions. A question competition caused much amusement, the winner being Mrs. Hardaker, who also won a farm competition. There were many entries for a 21b jar of flowers and the winners were Mrs. Illingworth 1, Mrs. Hodge 2. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames McAsey, Presland and Potter. Kohi: Quite a number of members attended the February meeting of the Kohi Women's Institute. The president gave as the month’s thought “Time hastens, therefore do to-day whatever kindly deed ye may.” Arrangements were discussed for the annual meeting and election of officers to ,be held in March 6. Motions of sympathy were passed with two members who were absent owing to illness and hope for their speedy return to health was expressed by those present. The competition, a hole the size of a shilling to be darned in a cashmere sock in five minutes, was won by Miss Lily No demonstration could be held owing to the absence of the demonstrator, but the time was occupied with a discussion on the library books.
