WAIPUKURAU CAMP
TARANAKI REGIMENT ARRIVES. VERY HOT, SUNNY WEATHER. The Ist. Battalion Taranaki Regiment arrived on Saturday nigat at the Waipukurau station at 7 o’clock and marched to camp, which was reached at 7.45. Within an hour aild a-half all had been allotted tents, had had a hot meal and had drawn blankets, palliasses and ground sheets. Some then went on leave. The weather has been bright, with hot sunshine. All men are working in shorts and khaki shirts and look splendid on parade with transport-limbers and horses. The total strength is 24 officers and 239 other ranks. Sunday was spent in preparing for the week. There were many interested visitors in the camp, watching the men on the Vickers and Lewis guns. Three pipers, who are in camp, play at reveille each morning, and play the troops on marches. On Monday morning reveille was at. 5.30, breakfast at 6.30, and parade at 7.45. The men went out for training on the rifle range.
