barton wins de tourret cup. WILSON CUP COMPETITION. The cup presented by Mr. de Tourret to the Opunake Surf Club was competed for on Sunday afternoon. The course was a straight swim of about 100 yards to a “live buoy,” which was circled before the competitor: swam back to a tape line at the edge of the surf. About I 13 swimmers started, the result being, k D. Burton ss. 1, L. Brown 10s. 2, 5. Spiers 12s. 3, R. Campbell 20s. 4. The water was rough and fairly cold. Mr. de Tourret presented the trophy to Burton. . . The John Wilson Memorial Cup contest for teams of four men was commenced. The resuscitation section of the event and the water work has yet to be undertaken. A large number of Opunake residents intend to attend the New Zealand Surf championships at Fitzroy next weekend.
