WIN FOR PUNGAREHU. Playing for the Moron tennis shield during the week-end, Pungarehu defeated the Oaonui B team at Oaonui by 12 sets (109 games) to four sets (79 games). Following are the scores, Pungarehu players being mentioned first:— Men’s singles: B. Brophy beat C. Leatherbarrow 9— i, L. Beardmore beat M. Tioko 9—6, J. Priest beat T. Tioko 9—5, H. Amstrong beat R. Tito 9—2. Women’s singles: Miss C. Brophy beat Miss H. Mitchell 7—2, Miss I. Gray lost to Miss M. Roach I—7, Miss L. Gilhooly lost to Miss Q. Coombe I—7, Miss M. Brophy beat Miss M. Bosworth 7—o. Men’s doubles: Brophy and Beardmore beat Leatherbarrow and Tito 9—5, Priest and Armstrong beat M. and T. Tioko 9—5.
Women’s doubles: Misses Brophy and Gray lost to Misses Mitchell and Roach 5—7, Misses Brophy and Gilhooly beat Misses Coombe and Bosworth 7—6.
Combined doubles: Brophy and MisS C. Brophy beat Leatherbarrow and Miss H. Mitchell 7—3, Beardmore and Miss R. Mitchell lost to M. Tioko and Miss Roach 6—7, Priest and Miss M. Brophy beat T. Tioko and Miss Coombe 7—5, Armstrong and Miss Gilhooly beat Tito and Miss Bosworth 7—3. In a tennis club ladder match Hunia (challenger) lost to Turu S—4, for the third position.
