LIVERPOOL REACHED IN TIME.

FIREMEN FIGHTING THE FLAMES.

British Wireless. Rugby, Feb. 6 The Newcastle steamer Bretwelda, of 5293 tons, inward bound from Manaos, Brazil, with a cargo of nuts and rice and other inflammable material, was discovered to be on fire when nearing Liverpool yesterday. She sent a message for assistance and made-for the Mersey, where she now lies off the Brunswick docks. Three holds are ablaze, despite the efforts of fire floats and fire engines, which are directing streams of water into her.
