WESTERN DIVISION BOWLING. OPUNAKE’S NARROW WIN. The third annual bowling contest between the Opunake club and rinks from clubs in the western division was played during the week-end. On the aggregate, Opunake won by 12 points. Mr. P. Dalrymple welcomed the western clubs representatives and Mr. F. Julian (Pihama) on behalf of the visitors expressed the pleasure they had received and mentioned the services rendered by the Opunake club secretary (Mr. G. Hammond and the president (Mr. Dalrymple. The Rev. Father, J. J. Kennedy, who has. been parish priest in the Opunake district for the past 12 years has been transferred to Stratford. During his term at Opunake a new church was built—the best on.the coast. St. Patrick’s hall has been enlarged and improved and a branch of the Hibernian society formed. In. golf and bowling circles, he has been a prominent player. His successor will be the Rev. Father Brennan. Over 100 cars were parked at the beach oh Sunday and a large crowd enjoyed the sea bathing. Next Sunday a large crowd is expected—it being the railway excursion from Wanganui and Hawera.
