SCULLING TITLE

BIG RACE PLANNED NEXT YEAR.

NEW PLYMOUTH MAN INVITED.

Mr. D’Arcy Hadfield, New Plymouth, former holder of the world’s professional sculling championship and one of the keenest active participants in . the sport at New Plymouth, has received an invitation to participate in a race for the world’s title in Canada, but will be unable to make the trip.

The invitation was received from the present world’s title-holder, Bob Pearce, who wrote from Hamilton that he hoped that a title race would be arranged next year between Burns, an English sculler, Hadfield, had he been able to compete, and himself. Mr. Hadfield regrets that he will be unable to make the trip, but is pleased that he received the invitation. He has had a distinguished career both as an amateur and professional, holding the professional world’s title in 1921-22 when he beat Dick Arnst. He is unofficial coach to the New Plymouth Rowing Club and is by no means a spent force, although 46 years of age. At th- Ngamotu regatta on Saturday he and Hill scored a fine win in the pairs event over a strong Clifton pair.
