WIN FOR OKAIAWA MAORI TEAM. BENNETT AND SUTTON CUP GAME. Okaiawa Maori met and defeated Kokiri at Mr. A. Soothill’s property over the week-end in the Bennett and Sutton Cup competition. Ngaere defeated the Wihgrove team at Ngaere by nine wickets. Wingrove batted first, and made a total of 34 runs. The scoring in this innings was very even, D. Jones, 6, being the best. Bowling for Ngaere, Arthur took six wickets for 17 runs and Jury four for 13. In its first innings Ngaere made 62 runs, C. Martin 26, Pope 11. D. Jones with four wickets for 26 runs, and A. Kirk two wickets for 14 runs, were the best bowlers. Wingrove in the second innings made 36 runs. The only batsmen to reach double figures were H. Pearce 13, D. Inglewood beat Waipuku at the weekend in a cricket match at Inglewood.

Features of the game were the century scored in great style for Inglewood by D. Allen, the great bowling of Hunt and Barry, and the smart fielding of the Inglewood side. Inglewood batted first and scored 171 runs, to which Waipuku could reply with only 28. Waipuku followed on to score 111, bu’t Hunt and Barry did not bowl in the second innings. STRATFORD WANDERERS WIN.

DEFEAT OF CARDIFF TEAM.

By 126 runs to 58 Stratford Wanderers defeated a team from Cardiff. The only Cardiff batsmen to reach double figures were Millar 20 and Huckstep 17. For Wanderers Kivell 42 made the most runs, while Barlow 25 and Gatton 16 also recorded useful scores. Stratford wickets were well spread among the Cardiff bowlers, Sexton, Lehmann and Hancock taking two each and Redshaw and Davidson one each. Kivell came to light again as the best Stratford bowler, securing six wickets. Gray obtained three and Pollard two.

KAPONGA AND ROWAN.

K.A.R.R.O. COMPETITION WINS.

The first of the series of matches to be played in , the K.AJR.R.O. competition between teams from Riverlea, Rowan, Kaponga, Auroa and Oeo were played last Thursday. Riverlea made 12 and 41 to Kaponga Thursday’s 22 and 21 for five wickets. The time , was up at the fall of the fifth wicket for Kaponga, so Kaponga had a win on the first innings. The bowlers were definitely on top - in this match, the batsmen being very uncomfortable facing fast and accurate bowling. The bowlers who did the damage were Foster (Kaponga) and J. Gibson and R. Leonard (Riverlea).

In the Rowan v. Auroa match played at Auroa, Auroa made 28 and 24 and Rowan 29 and 37. .
