HAWERA TRAINING

HORSES FOR COMING CIRCUIT. PROMISING YEARLING COLT. (By “Limited.”) .. . The intention of sending the yearling colt by Gay Shield—Persis to the national yearling sale has been abandoned and he will probably be raced by his present owners. This beautifully modelled youngster is being patiently handled at Hawera in his preliminary education, and he is shaping admirably. A full brother to Gay Seton and Lady Persian, he is at present hard to fault, and his progress is being keenly watched. With Wanganui, New Plymouth, Hawera and Opunake circuit of meetings opening this month, Hawera-trained horses have plenty of racing in front of them. Hawera candidates for the open distance races comprise Aga Khan, Carfex, Ruri, Fersen and probably St. Clara. St. Clara has given evidence of capability over a xniddle distance and gives the impression that a mile and a-quatter would be quite within her compass. The others mentioned have proved themselves over the distance and visiting horses will be well tried out to dispose of them. Onewhetu. Harvest Moon, Silk' Sox and Friesland are solid hacks, and promising maidens include Autumn Leaf, Colossal and Lady Eka. ‘ While Fairfax failed through waywardness to' race up to expectations, Lowenberg, Link Divine and Exquisite are among the two-year-olds likely to show up prominently before the circuit closes.
