OHAWE SANITATION

PROVISION BY COUNTY COUNCIL. HEALTH INSPECTOR TO REPORT. It is proposed by the Hawera County Council to provide efficient sanitary and water services at the Ohawe beach settlement. To inspect the settlement from those points of view the chairman (Mr. J. B. Murdoch) and members of the council, in company with the health inspector (Mr. R. Gooding), visited it on Saturday afternoon. It was decided to ask the health inspector to report fully on the matter for the council’s next meeting.

The question was brought before the council meeting on Saturday morning by the* chairman. The settlement had a population of between 250 and 300 people for many months of the year, and there was now a large number of people living there all through the year, said Mr. Murdoch. On Sundays and holidays there had been up to 1500 people in the settlement and on the beaches. He considered that the time had come when the council should take steps towards providing sanitary and water services at the settlement, and that supervision should be exercised over those services. He invited the council to inspect the settlement in the afternoon.
