Landru, who is to make his first apspearance in the Ruapehu Hack Handicap at Trentham next 'Tuesday is a four-year-old bay gelding by Shambles from the Martian mare Love-in-the-Mist. He is owned by the breeder, Mr. G. Grigg, Christchurch, and is trained at Riccarton by. F. D. Jones. He has been showing promise on the tracks lately. Pleasing the Trainer. The Trentham trainer T. R. George was very pleased with the way in which La Nijinska moved along in her first fast sprint over two furlongs on Tuesday morning, states the Wellington Evening Post. Austin, Went very smoothly, and particularly impressive Was the sensible way in which she comported herself after the effort, A Useful Mare. The Moorefield Racing Club, one of the Sydney suburban clubs, has decided to put on a £5OO race at its March meeting for which only hotses owned by their trainers Willbe eligible. The event Will be known as the Trainers’ Cup. A Pleasing Sign. Some years ago there was no bigger patron of racing than the east coast squatter, Mr. A. B. Williams, but for the last five years the familiar black and white colours have been absent from racecourses. However, it is reported that he has sent four yearlings to J. H.
