Production Holding Up. The rain which fell during the past week or two proved a very welcome New Year gift to Taranaki farmers, as the pastures were drying up everywhere and the milk supply was dropping very rapidly, creating a natural quota. Since the rainfall the pastures have freshened up wonderfully, and Taranaki now possesses a green appearance, in ? marked contrast to the district around Wanganui and some parts of the Waikato. The decline in the milk supply has also been checked. In fact the majority of factories report an increased output since the New Year, as compared with immediately prior to that, though the output still falls far short of what it was in the flush. Still the increase due to the rainfall was very appreciable and equally welcome, representing in the case of one North Taranaki coastal dairy factory, twenty boxes of butter or half a ton per day. With the improvement in the prices of both butter and cheese that has taken place on the Home market, the New Year is certainly opening more hopefully for the dairy farmer.
