HUGE MAJORITY FOR GERMANY RESULT OF FATEFUL PLEBISCITE ANTI-NAZI PROTESTS EXPECTED 'THE Saar plebiscite has resulted in an overwhelming majoiitjin favour of the return of the region to Germany. At 7.25 a.m. (London time) on Tuesday the official result was stated to be : — For return to Germany 477,109 . For status quo 46,513 For union with France 2,124 Spoiled papers 901 Blank papers 1,257 The votes for the return to Germany repiesent slightly more than 90 per cent, of the total votes cast. The most optimistic Nazi forecasts expected no more than a 75 per cent, vote / in favour of Germany. h The League Council has decided to transfer the Saar to Germany at the earliest possible moment, states a Geneva message. Anti-Nazi protests are expected to be made, their giounds being that the plebiscite was not properly conducted. No blame is attached, to the neutral officials, but it is alleged that a back--1 ground of Nazi terrorism made a'free and uninfluenced vote impossible.
