INGLEWOOD BOROUGH

MONTHLY MEETING OF COUNCIL. RAGWORT GROWTH IN DOMAIN. The monthly meeting of the Inglewood Borough Council was held last night, when the Mayor, Mr. J. Gibbs and Crs. F. Spurdie, R. B. Sutton, E. Crossman, E. H. Braybrooke, W. G. Ladbrook and N. Peters were present. While the council was sitting as the Domain Board Cr. Peters asked if the council could see its way to mow Jubilee Park. Cr. Sutton said he would be willing to mow it with an ordinary horse mower. Cr. Sutton was thanked for his offer and it was decided to mow the park closer about a week after it had been mowed with the horse mower. C«, Peters also mentioned that ragwort on the Domain Board’s property had increased considerably, and he thought that adjoining property holders should be made to spray or cut their ragwort. The Mayor stated that the inspector of noxious weeds was inspecting private property. The reserves report stated that all the trees were showing very satisfactory growth. Ragwort was sprayed immediately after the holidays. The Inglewood volunteer fire brigade was made a grant of £5 towards delegates’ expenses in attending . the fire brigades’ conference at Blenheim. The overseer was instructed to report to the next meeting the names of. all ratepayers who were letting noxious weeds or hedges grow to excess. The Mayor said the committee had investigated the matter of extending the baths. The committee thought that a stone wall costing about £l5 would be needed to keep the filling in position, and if the swimming club could make a donation towards the costs the work would be proceeded with. Mr. H. Winter, borough overseer and electrical engineer, reported that during the month watertables and footpaths were cleaned in Elliot, James, Standish, Carrington, Rimu, Moa, Matai, Tawa, Brooke, Brown, Kelly and Miro Streets. The work would be continued after the holidays. Mr. Winter reported that during the month the number of units registered at the sub-station was 46,880 against 46,910 in the corresponding month a year ago. Three heating points and three light points were connected. Three interruptions in the power supply occurred, the supply being off for 35 minutes on December 7 and for 55 minutes and two hours and five minutes on December 19. ELTHAM TALKIES. A GREAT MUSICAL.
